About the Author:
Known as Sam, Sammy or if the occasion demands Samantha, I live in the central North Island of New Zealand and have been writing short stories, novels and novellas for the past 17 years. Having been born in Canada and raised in New Zealand (aka Aotearoa or Land of the Long White Cloud) I take life at a different pace, sometimes even a pace that is different from those around me. In saying that, here in our little country, we take things a little differently anyway. Here is where you can find that the grass is greener and the people are friendly. Where we spell things differently (with an S not a Z and words like humour and colour have a U), where our speech can be so rapid and filled with local colloquialisms that it’s sometimes hard to follow. Perhaps it’s from living at the bottom of the world, cut off by vast tracks of ocean...perhaps it’s because we see the light of a new day before anyone else....perhaps it’s simply because we’ve been bred strong and learned how to be laid back...or maybe it’s all of it, none of it or some of it, who really knows what makes a Kiwi a Kiwi. We certainly are a unique bunch after all, and I am proud to be (half) Kiwi! I try to lace emotion and social commentary into my works, along with a touch of wit and humour, seriousness and grit. Of all the things I write, they all come from the heart. I use aspects of the world around me, as well as dreams brought forth by my subconscious mind, adapting and moulding them to the story at hand; while also incorporating a touch of Kiwi-ism’s into whatever I write. It is my hope that while I am still a new and upcoming author, that this is my year for submitting my works to the world. So I bid that you embark on this journey with me, take the first few steps into waters yet untested and help me to spread my words to the world. S.L.Marshall |
